Meet Tammi Reiss

Tammi ultimately graduated high school as Valedictorian and held a Class D NYS Cross Country and Basketball State Champion. She was offered a basketball scholarship from every school in the country and decided to attend the University of Virginia, where she would go onto to become an Academic and Athletic All-American, win 2 ACC Championships and go to 3 consecutive Final Fours.

Upon graduation Tammi chose to attend drama school in NYC, obtained an agent and began her acting/fitness modeling career. She landed her very 1st National Commercial for Arthur Anderson Consulting, which ran for 10 years. She would go on to appear in multiple commercials and fitness model for print ads for Nike, Polartec, adidas, and Athlete.

Tammi decided to return to basketball in a coaching capacity in 1993 and would coach in college and the WNBA off and on for over 16 years. She returned to basketball in 1997 as a player and was drafted 5th pick in the 1st round of the inaugural WNBA draft. She would go on to play for two seasons for The Utah Starzz and then become an Assistant Coach for the franchise when her playing days were over. During that time she would go on to become a business owner and opened a nightclub in Salt Lake City called The Manhattan Club and a Hair salon/day spa called Blush salon. During this time she would continue to act in movies, such as Juwanna Mann and Double Teamed and television series like Touched By an Angel and Sister Sister.

Tammi returned to college coaching in 2010-11 and spent 9 years as an Assistant Coach until she became the Head Coach at The University of Rhode Island. She is going into her Fourth Season as a Head Coach and currently has the highest win percent in school history, has the most wins in a season and was named A-10 Coach of the Year in her second season in 2020-2021. She has taken a very different path on her way to becoming a NCAA Women's Basketball Head Coach. From player to coach to actress to business owner to certified personal trainer back to player and finally back to Head Coach.

Her life experiences have taught her that there is life outside of basketball, and really puts the game in perspective. She believes in Hard Work and to Dream Big! Try to go after whatever you want in life and seize every opportunity. She has learned so many life lessons through all her successes and failures that she now teaches her student athletes.

It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
